The incredible array of flowers were provided and arranged by Gemma’s Aunt as part of a final college project and I have to say we were blown away. I don’t think I’ve ever seen so many different flowers I can’t name in one room, the whole venue looked incredible with little decorations (many of which were handmade) adorning all three rooms. Sometimes at weddings we see friends and family going above and beyond to help out the bride and groom, it was clear just how much Richard and Gemma mean to their friends and family who stayed at the Maze all day on the Friday getting the venue ready. It just seemed like everyone wanted to do anything and everything to make sure the day went perfectly and with so much goodwill it was hard to see it going any other way. Richard and Gemma are just that kind of couple, you just can’t help but love their company, in fact when we first met them back in September we spent most of the day walking around Fountains Abbey chatting away about their plans.

We’re not normally ones for group shots, I know they are often a necessity (Yep, we even had a few at our own wedding) but we always try to make sure they don’t take up too much time so everyone can relax and enjoy the day. Every so often though we get a wedding party who are in such high spirits that group shots become something a bit different. Richards groomsmen also seemed to have a fantastic aptitude when it came to positioning, the shot on the climbing frame wasn’t altered by us at all, that’s just where they all climbed to – awesome work there guys!

Verity and I were also blown away with our couple shots from their day, with so many gorgeous locations we were spoilt for choice! We finished with some photographs with Gemma and Richard sat with blankets outside their amazing ti-pi tent (were they were staying the night) and a lit fire – it seemed like the perfect way to end a perfect wedding.

We really did try our best to cut down the numbers for this gallery to make a concise overview of the day (Honestly!) but we just couldn’t! After spending a whole day getting them down to a number our blog could handle we were left with over 200 images, we both hate cutting out images for website galleries because we genuinely become attached to so many of them! A huge thank you to all of the guests and of course Gemma and Richard for booking us to shoot their spectacular wedding!

Of all of the weddings we’ve covered we’ve only ever said ‘That was the best yet!’ once. That was as we drove home from Richard and Gemma’s York Maze wedding at the end of April. The day before their wedding we stopped by the maze to see how things were going as we knew Richard, Gemma and a healthy number of friends and family were spending the day getting the venue ready. We were blown away by the fantastic assortment of flowers being arranged by Gemma’s aunt, it just felt like all of the details and decorations fitted in perfectly with not only the venue but Richard and Gemma as a couple.

We’ll be posting the wedding in the next few days but for now I hope you enjoy a few detail photos from the day before!

Vicki and Scott had travelled over from Manchester for the Bank holiday weekend and it was lovely to take a short tour of St Olaves church, the ceremony venue for their wedding later this year. We’d met Vicki and Scott back in September and have been in contact via email since then. It’s always nice to have a bit of a catch-up before the big day, to hear about plans and how the day’s going to unfold. When we’re lucky enough to have great weather like this we tend to use the opportunity to get to know the bride and groom a little better which is one of the best parts of our job. Scott and Vicki seemed to relax around the camera’s a lot faster than they expected and we were chatting and shooting away in no time.

We’ve got a busy summer ahead of us and more than a few weddings to come but we’re both really looking forward to Scott and Vicki’s wedding in late summer, I’m sure we’ll be posting that later in the year!

They both really understood what we aim for with our work and it fitted in perfectly with what they had planned for the day.

Verity was at Lucy’s parents house where the reception would be held and I was over with Stuart and his groomsmen in Harrogate. Their ceremony was held at the 13th Century St Michael’s Church in Kirklington, North Yorkshire – with a surprise ring bearer in the form of a Barn Owl! Stuart and Lucy are avid road cyclists and often take part in triathlon’s, as a keen road cyclist myself it was great to hear they were making a bit of a theme out of it. Each table was named after a famous cyclist and it was lovely to see how much effort had gone into all the little details.

The day went just how Stuart and Lucy had planned, the sun making a welcome appearance and for once it actually felt like spring. Going over the photos and seeing the lambs, daffodils and smiles it seems like the years weather might just be looking up at last. Finishing the night with a ceilidh and fireworks and after just shy of 14 hours shooting we headed back to Leeds, pleased with a job well done.

Today we would like to share a family shoot with you all. It was a real family day out for Joe and Caroline’s York University shoot earlier this month with their two boys Elijah and Jacob as well as their goddaughter. We love capturing events and moments as they happen, but occasionally couples will ask for a specific shot, mainly for ‘save the date’ cards or wedding day decorations. It’s great to change things up a little and we loved Caroline’s idea. The boys looked awesome in their braces and ties and it wasn’t even the wedding! With kids that stylish you just know the wedding outfits are going to look fantastic and it will be great to see everyone again in August!

What a difference a year makes, this time last year (Give or take a few days) we were shooting our 100th wedding for Anne and Andrew. Since then things have been going onwards and upwards for us and we have since seen our work featured on almost all of the major UK wedding blogs as well as being accepted to the WPJA and invited to join ‘Best of Wedding Photography’. Every wedding we shoot we push ourselves to improve and at the end of each edit it’s lovely to sit back, look through the images and give ourselves a little pat on the back. Most important for us is that every collection of images has a different feel, unique to that particular couple.

We loved Anne and Andrews Easter themed wedding at Ringwood Hall and we were both really excited when we got an email from Hannah and James, guests at their wedding.. Referrals are great, especially if the couple were at a wedding we’ve shot, as it means they know how we work and appreciate our relaxed style. Now entering our 4th year it’s great to look through the diary and see so many referral bookings, knowing couples are so pleased with their images to pass on their friends is so rewarding.

Hannah and James’ Peterborough wedding was exactly the kind we love shooting, lots of details with some great handmade touches, lots of happy guests and a fantastic bride and groom. Fotheringhay church was an incredible setting for the ceremony and we felt unbelievably lucky to be shooting on what must have been the nicest day of the year at that point. They held their reception just down the road from the church at The Falcon Inn , with the marquee out the back decorated beautifully with handmade touches it was the perfect setting for the rest of their celebrations.

Art is always subjective and, whether it be a painting or a photograph, each piece or collection will always evoke different memories and emotions. Whenever I see Hannah and James’ photos I’ll be reminded of fun-loving ushers, genuinely entertaining speeches and fantastically welcoming families. Most importantly, as I look back over the images from the day, it’s hard to see anything but a couple who really are happiest when they are together. That infectious kind of happy that you know will last forever.

Engagement shoots are always a bit nerve wracking for couples. It’s often the first time they’ve been in front of a couple of large lenses with two photographers snapping away. That said we find it a really lovely time get to know couples and a lot of our time is spent chatting about wedding plans (although even then we end up going off topic!) so by the end they have forogtten we are there anyway! Having something else going on usually makes the relaxing process quite a lot quicker and there’s nothing better than kids for that!

Our shoot with Gemma, Paul and Honey-Lily was one of the most relaxed shoots we’ve had, we occasionally had to remind ourselves we were there to shoot not just talk (Although we did a fair bit of both!). The snow had yet to clear from the Chevin which gave a real wintery feel to this April engagement shoot. We always love shoots were we feel like we could stay there chatting all day, it makes us look forward to shooting the wedding even more and gives us that feeling that we’re definitely the right photographers for the job!

As with all of our engagement shoots this year we’re hoping for slightly warmer weather on the wedding day but whatever happens it’s sure to be a fantastic shoot. Bring on the summer!

It’s funny how the place you think of as home can change, we both came to Leeds for University and we both fell in love with Yorkshire, for me it was right around the time I fell in love with Verity. Our sense of home made our third and final year even more difficult, torn between the student dreams of snowboarding around Canada working part time jobs to break even and the longing to stay in Yorkshire. I’d become well and truly disillusioned with the idea of being in the Film industry and knew I needed to find a way to make photography pay the bills. Verity loved being behind a camera but had similar feelings towards going forward with fine art photography.

In the last few months, before we graduated, we started shooting weddings. Before we knew it the year was fully booked and our dreams of snowboarding were second to our dreams of being the best photographers we could be.

Sheryl and Steven have taken a much different route to calling Leeds home. Their hometowns are more than 4 hours away from each other in Canada and North America and they met whilst studying for their PHDs at Leeds University. It was fascinating hearing about their research trips and the places and buildings they have seen along the way. They opted for an intimate, unique day in Harrogate with friends and family travelling from Canada, Columbia and America.

It was important to both Sheryl and Steve that the day was their style which they both felt was rather unorthodox. In many ways they were right, but we loved seeing the bride and groom have their ‘first look’ before the ceremony, seeing them walk down the aisle together and opting for conversation rather than speeches. In fact, as unorthodox as the day may have been it was, at its heart, everything a wedding should be. Family and friends all coming together, learning about each other and seeing how two people continue to touch the lives of the people close to them.

Yorkshire is certainly our home, but spending the day with Sheryl, Steven and their guests reminded us that it really is all about the people, not the geography.

When we first started out we used to spend hours looking all over the internet for the world’s top wedding photographers. The locations, the couples and the diverse traditions from all over the globe. Our approach definitely takes a lot of influence from photographers in Australia and the USA where the informal approach seemed to take off a bit quicker. One of our favourite moments from weddings across the pond is the ‘First Look’; the moment that the bride and groom first see each other before the ceremony. It’s quite different to over here, the first time couples see each other is very often an intimate moment between two people and photographers get the privilege of being a spectator to this. Part of what we do as photographers is try to see the day as the bride and groom do, capturing the moments that will bring them straight back to that day as well as the parts they miss.

I’m sorry to say we weren’t jetting off this month, instead Sheryl and Steven, originally from North America and Canada, brought their families – and customs – to the UK. We’ll have the full wedding up later today but we wanted to share with you our first ‘First Look’.

First we would like to share a very wintery wedding in March!

I’ve been to a few festivals over the years, some warm summer days and others with nothing but relentless rain and wind. There’s always that element of luck, even in summer. Rachel and Chris planned on a festival themed spring wedding but the good old British weather had other plans. On the morning of their March wedding the covering of snow was thick enough to send us into a hedge on the way to Wood Hall (Good thing we’d set off at 5.30 in the morning and had a shovel!) but we arrived in plenty of time where Rachel and her bridesmaids were making an early start.

I always think one of the biggest testaments of anyone’s character is how they handle bad weather on their wedding day. I can fully understand anyone’s disappointment, especially when the day’s been so long in the planning. But both Chris and Rachel didn’t let the bitter cold spoil their day for a second, even the festival flags went up as planned, everyone made it through the snow and the rest of the day went off without a hitch.

We have some fantastic weddings, but the best thing is always the couples we meet. I think it’s safe to say that Chris and Rachel’s wedding didn’t turn out exactly how they imagined, but as we left after the dancing had started it was hard to imagine them changing anything about their day. The cold weather might have put a stop to the outdoor activities, but it did seem to bring everyone together and ultimately isn’t that something everyone wants for their wedding day?
